About the Contest

The KLAF 2026 Photography Contest is a landmark celebration of Malaysia's built environment, presented under the theme "Building Heritage, Living Culture." The competition invites architecture and engineering professionals to capture the rich intersection of tradition and modernity that defines Malaysia's evolving urban landscape.

Co-organised by HP and DPI Technology in collaboration with KLAF 2026, this contest is open to LAM-registered architects, PAM members, and all AEC professionals and students. Whether you work in architecture, civil engineering, interior design, or construction, this is your opportunity to share your unique visual perspective on Malaysia's built heritage.

Contest Theme

This category celebrates the intersection of tradition, culture, and modern construction. Architects are invited to capture how heritage, local identity, and innovative design come together on construction sites — showing the story of tomorrow being built today.

What to Capture

Your photographs should explore one or more of the following subjects:

• Construction projects that blend modern design with cultural or historical influences
• Architectural elements that reflect local culture or traditions
• Innovative materials or techniques applied in culturally significant contexts
• Interaction between built structures and the surrounding environment or community
• Visionary projects showcasing the future of architecture in Malaysia and the wider region

Judging Criteria

All submissions will be evaluated by the jury panel based on the following criteria:

• Relevance to theme — How well does the image relate to "Building Tomorrow: Heritage Meets Innovation"?
• Creativity and originality — Does the photograph offer a fresh and distinctive perspective?
• Visual impact and composition — Is the image striking, well-composed, and memorable?
• Technical quality — Sharpness, exposure, colour balance, and overall photographic technique
• Storytelling through imagery and caption — Does the photo tell a compelling story?
