Scanning turns paper drawings into PDF or TIFF files you can search, share and back up. Old plans, as-built drawings and marked-up sheets are protected from loss and damage, take no filing space, and can be sent to consultants or authorities by email. Scans can also be referenced in CAD and BIM software when you renovate or redevelop an existing building.

Scans saved as PDF or PDF/A can be named by project and drawing number, stored in a network folder or document system, and opened by anyone on the team, in the office or on site. Multi-page PDFs keep a drawing set together. PDF/A is an archive format designed for long-term storage, which suits record rooms and authority archives.

It scans originals up to 1118 mm (44 inches) wide at up to 1200 dpi, using CIS technology with dual lighting to remove shadows. It saves to PDF, PDF/A, multi-page PDF, TIFF, JPEG, JPEG2000 and DWF, and sends scans to email, USB, its 500 GB drive, a network folder, FTP or a printer for copying, all from its touchscreen.

A standalone scanner such as the HP SD Pro 44 suits archive projects, originals wider than 36 inches, thick or delicate media, and offices that already own a plotter. If you scan occasionally and print often, an MFP such as the T850 MFP or T2600 prints, scans and copies in one unit and takes less space. Tell us your volumes and we will compare both.

Clean the scanner glass and feed rollers regularly with a lint-free cloth, and run the calibration from the scanner software when scans show lines or uneven colour. Remove staples and tape, flatten folds, and use a carrier sheet for torn or fragile originals. Name and file scans as you go, so the archive stays searchable.
